Monster English Dub | First Impressions

Twelve clips are available on Manga.com of Monster's English dub. Head here to check them out.

I watched all 12 clips (each running from around two to two-and-a-half minutes each) and I am very pleased. We get to hear what many of the major players sound like. We hear Dr. Tenma, Detective Lunge, Eva Hienemann, Nina Fortner/Anna Liebert, Johan Liebert and several others.

Loving the fact that good old Liam O'Brien is playing Dr. Tenma. Liam is one of my favorite English anime voice actors, and from what I've heard, he captures the character quite well. Richard Epcar is playing Lunge and he has absolutely nailed the detective. Lunge is perhaps my favorite character, so I am very happy to find out that he has been expertly cast. Johan has been also been cast well. I don't recognize the voice, but whoever he is has also nailed the creepiness of the role. Tara Platt seems to be a good fit has Eva, though we don't get to hear that much of her, and I'm not sold yet on Nina/Anna (don't recognize her voice either). Still though, the clips have left a very favorable impression, especially from minor roles like Junkers and the deranged gardener in the final clip (entitled "Anna"). Monday just can't get here soon enough. Looking forward to experiencing the animated version of Naoki Urasawa's Monster once again, only in English this time.

Addendum: Apparently the clips on Manga.com are region blocked, so I have uploaded all twelve clips to YouTube. I have embedded a playlist of all of the clips below. Enjoy!

I only got to see the first three clips unfortunately because for some odd reason the others wouldn't play at all (which may or may not have to do with the epic failure that is my computer, I'll find out I guess.... ), but from what I saw of the ones I did see, I'm definitely quite impressed. I'm totally with you on Liam O'brien playing Tenma, that one was very, very well cast.

Most of the clips refused to play? Man, you need a new computer pronto.

Hopefully you can watch the remainder of the clips. There's some really great samplings in the remaining nine.

Yeah, it's definitely got some issues. We're thinking it needs to have it's hard drive wiped more than anything else. But a new computer would also definitely be very nice as well. Especially considering I've been wanting a computer of my own for quite some time now....

But yeah, I'll definitely try to get those clips watched on the campus computers. I'm really curious as to how those other voices turned out.

Very nice preview! (any mention of Monster has my undivided attention!) I completely agree about Liam O'Brien as Tenma. He was ~perfect~, I couldn't have hoped for better cast, and I look forward to seeing what he does with the character. Johan was equally good (and creepy, which I very much like), but I don't recognize the voice either. I was slightly disappointed with Lunge, only because I expected his voice to be deeper. I like Richard Epcar and I know he does good work, so I'm sure I'll grow accustomed to his voice quickly. =) I only have a general opinion of the rest of the cast and reserve judgement after seeing a few episodes.

I'm crazy excited about Monday too, I just have to buy some sort of recording device or I'll miss it cause of work. =( If I do miss it, the first boxset is on preorder, which makes me feel a little better. <3

Is there a youtube link. Bastards block ya from even previewing if you are not in US

@Jenny: Hey, Jenny! Nice to see you commenting here. I was a bit disappointed when I saw his name listed as Lunge on ANN before watching the clips, but listening to his performance eliminated any doubts I had.

@Coyo: I searched YouTube and didn't find any the dub clips. I am going to upload them to YouTube myself.

Yeah, I finally got to see them all back on friday. Definitely even more impressive based on those, that's for sure. Two more spot on performances alongside Liam O'Brien's Tenma in Richard Epcar's Lunge and whoever it was that played Johan. I actually did try to find out who it was who played him and so far it doesn't look like ANN has him listed yet.... But he was definitely spot on with his character, no doubt.

Tried to look up Anna's VA as well. To me it sounded like Katie Higgins when I watched those clips, but apparently it's someone who I've never heard of before.... I thought she did pretty well though. I was a bit worried at first because she caught Anna's Vibrant persona before she remembered her past again perfectly well, but I had a hard time picturing that same voice as a more stoic and serious sounding one for latter episodes. But I think that clip impressed me more than what I was thinking it would. Not sold yet myself I guess, but so far doesn't sound too bad.
