Soul Eater English Dub Sneak Peek
FUNimation just put up short clip previewing the dub of Soul Eater. In the clip, we get to hear the English voices of Maka and Soul for the first time.
Laura Bailey seems to be a good fit as Maka and so far betters the Japanese voice actress. Then again, Chiaki Omigawa's debut performance was wooden anyway, so it isn't surprising that a seasoned veteran like Laura fares much better. On the other hand, newcomer Micah Solusod seems to be handling the title role just fine.
Though this is only a minute sampling, the dub seems to be pretty solid so far. Assuming that FUNimation will be giving us more "sneak peeks," I am looking forward to hearing more.

This is the first dub I've really anticipated for a long time. Laura Bailey's one of my favorite english voice actresses. Blackstar's english voice performance I'm most anicipating. The performance is going to have to be a fun & probably slightly annoying one. Like a more badass Naruto.
Black Star in Japanese was far more annoying than fun for me. Hopefully the English dub fixes that problem.
Even though I know like you said Soul is being played by a newcomer, did anyone else besides me think he sounded almost exactly like Johnny Young Bosh? If I hadn't known ahead of time I probably would have assumed that's who was playing him that's how similar it sounded. Which of course would have been really strange, considering this is a Funimation dub after all.....
But yeah, not bad from what I can tell. Looking forward to seeing more. Black Star's should definitely be a real interesting one to look forward to, that's for sure.
When I first watched this, Bosch never even crossed my mind. Had nobody ever mentioned him, I never would have noticed the similarities. Now the comparisons are getting on my nerves. Who cares if he sounds like Bosch? Geez, give Micah Solusod a break.
P.S. I'm not angry at you, Nate. Just annoyed at how anime fans tend to knock on dub actors for "imitating" another actor with their natural voice.
Yes, the voice acting's good, but this first bit's writing is absolutely painful to listen too. It's not the actor's fault. This first segment just had really corny writing to begin with, and translating it to English didn't help.
