To Aru Kagaku no Railgun | First Impressions

A Certain Scientific Railgun was the second series to the run the gauntlet. Did it come out unscathed?

Kuroko and her lesbian antics ... She doesn't know when to quit.
Not that it is a bad thing, however.

This series assumes familiarity with To Aru Majutsu no Index (A Certain Magical Index) and rightly so. There are not many people are watching this who haven't seen Index. Railgun jumps right into the everyday like of Mikoto Misaka, and much of the episode has to do with Kuroko Kurai and her obsession with Mikoto. This provides for a few enjoyable moments and, of course, some fan service. Kuroko also has set things up for her friend Kazari to meet Mikoto (who is something of a celebrity, being the third strongest level 5 esper in Academy City).

How dare you offer to share your crepe with another girl, Mikoto!
You had to know it was going to make Kuroko jealous.

This is all well and good (especially the yuri overtones), but the problem is that all of this is ended up being uninteresting. I went in to this series expecting something enjoyable, but eventually I found myself wishing for some action during all the yawn-inducing slice of life fluff. I got my wish, but even the action was boring and predictable. I hate to say it, but I'm not going to continue watching Railgun. Surprisingly enough, it is actually missing many of the elements that made Index worth watching. Like a plot, for instance. I'll just have to cross my fingers for an Accelerator-centered spin-off now.

Like Mikoto gave Kuroko in this scene, I am giving this series the boot.

I think everyone knows what my favorite part in the episode was. Ah darn, ya got me. It was the delightful shower scene, but after that I dozed off.
