Soul Eater English Dub Sneak Peek | Part 3
FUNimation has put up two more clips of Soul Eater's English dub. The third clip is from episode 3, meaning we get to hear Death the Kid, Liz, and Patty.
I figured I'd have trouble jibing with Todd Haberkorn as Death the Kid. I've never liked the sound of his voice, plus I knew that there was no way he would ever match Mamoru Miyano's original performance. For one, he is making Kid sound a bit too playful when he's in "serious mode." However, in this scene Kid quickly reverts into his obsessive-compulsive state, so we get to hear Todd go crazy over symmetry for most of the clip. I'm not sold on that aspect of Todd's performance either. It's not that he's isn't putting enough effort; to me it sounds like he's giving Kid a slightly homosexual vibe, which I don't like. Of course, I am very biased as I love Mamoru Miyano and don't like Todd all that much, but It's still early on in the series, so Todd definitely has plenty of time to work out the kinks in his performance. As I have in the past, I'll probably just get used to him as well.
On the other hand, I am really loving Cherami Leigh as Patty and Jamie Marchi as Liz. I knew from the get-go that Cherami has the perfect voice for the role, and she's handling the very childish nature of the character very well. I love her line: "Garbage is ew, and you're not." Jamie Marchi, on the other hand, has recently become one of my favorite FUNimation actresses, so I'm glad that she got the role of Liz -- she's perfect for it. She captures Liz's sarcastic nature excellently, which is exactly what I expected. Her voice is perfect for lines dripping with sarcasm like: "Oh wonderful; here we go." Her snapping back at Kid does sound a bit forced, but hopefully Jamie will get more accustomed to getting upset at the drop of a hat.
The fourth clip is from episode 5, so we get to hear Professor Stein for the first time.
Not quite sure what I think of Chuck Huber's performance yet. Chuck sounds uninterested in this scene, but I believe that is supposed to be intentional. Other than that, I wasn't really impressed with him, but then again FUNimation didn't pick a very good scene. What I'm looking forward most to is Stein's decent into insanity later on in the series and all of the interplay between him and Medusa. I bet Chuck will have loads of fun with that.
Keep it up, FUNimation! I really want to hear Vic Mignogna as Death Scythe (Maka's dad). Medusa would be nice too, considering how much I love Luci Christian.
